Actress Sigourney Weaver is known for her heroics in Sci-fi films, but now she faces four elite Defenders in the upcoming Marvel Netflix series. However, it’s premature for fans to be too excited for her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’m very happy being in the Marvel with a small ‘M’,'” Weaver admitted to Movies.com. In this recent interview, she touched on topics regarding her involvement in Marvel’s The Defenders along with her work in the James Cameron Avatar sequels.

Weaver discussed her busy schedule with The Defenders, Avatar sequels (four films shot together), and A Monster Calls (a film based off a children’s fantasy novel).

“Meanwhile, I am doing The Defenders, which is a lot of fun,” she said. “It has a wonderful cast, and we’re doing it right here in New York, which means a lot to me.”

Weaver may be best known for battling Xenomorphs in the Alien franchise, but her prolific roles even include small parts like the Working Girl in Ghostbusters. She revealed to Movies.com that The Defenders separates itself from past and present superhero projects with a different feel to it.

“Basically the four heroes come up against this really nice woman, who I’m playing,” she joked. Weaver referred to Marvel’s Netflix series as a love letter to NYC. “To me they’re not superheroes; they’re people with a gift. It’s just a different scale, and I’m really enjoying the scale of it. The apocalyptic thing is a little harder for me to understand.”

A plethora of Marvel characters from the Netflix solo series are starring in The Defenders. These include Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), Stick (Scott Glenn) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson).

All seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are available to view on Netflix. Iron Fist is set to premiere on March 17th, 2017. Marvel’s The Defenders has no set release date, but will premiere later in the same year. The Punisher has no release date announced for now.
