A new live action Pokémon movie is reportedly on the way.
The report suggests that Warner Bros. and Legendary are in a bidding war over the live action movie rights to the Pokémon franchise. Legendary are reportedly the frontrunners for the movie rights (though Warner Bros. had great success with the first animated movie over 15 years ago).
Legendary are hoping to develop that movie into a big budget live action film based on Ash Ketchum and his partner Pikachu.
There are obstacles standing in the way of Legendary’s pursuit of the live action rights though. Legendary is owned by a Chinese conglomerate and political tensions between China and Japan could add difficulties to Legendary’s bid for the Pokemon rights, though Legendary has previously been involved with Godzilla (another major Japanese franchise).
Thoughts on this report? Would you like to see a new live action Pokémon movie?
