Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has teased that the supporting characters in her Jessica Jones series will play a larger role in the second season of the Netflix show.
Rosenberg was asked about the challenges of focusing on characters other than Jones in the series. She said:
“That’s the trick of a show called Jessica Jones. If she’s not in the scene, it’s not a guarantee that scene will end up in the final picture. You have to earn secondary character stories. You have to flesh them out enough so they can eventually carry stories of their own, which is very much what season one was about.”
Rosenberg also stated that she hopes to give lead actress Krysten Ritter a day off during filming of the second season. Ritter will be filming the next season of Jessica Jones back to back with the highly-anticipated The Defenders series.
She also teased that the second season will see Jones dealing with the aftermath of her final encounter with Kilgrave, which in itself may see her in a more precarious mental state than the state she was in last season.
The second season of the Jessica Jones series will begin filming later this year. However, no release date has been announced for the new season yet.
Thoughts on this report? Which supporting characters are you hoping to see get a lot more screen-time in the second season of Jessica Jones?
