Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye) has revealed why Hawkeye comes out of retirement for Captain America: Civil War, after retiring as a superhero in Avengers: Age of Ultron to spend time with his family.
Renner is quoted as saying the following:
“I think it’s a good idea but maybe in practicality, not so much. I think golf got a little boring for him. He had to repay a debt to Scarlet Witch and Cap called in need. So, he had to come out of retirement.”
In a nutshell, it sounds like Hawkeye wants to repay Quicksilver’s sacrifice and joins Scarlet Witch on Captain America’s side to repay that debt.
“In Captain America: Civil War, governments around the world hold Earth’s Mightiest Heroes accountable for their actions, despite the amount of lives they’ve saved. Heroes divide as Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) butt heads, and fists, while fighting for what they believe in!”
Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6th, 2016.
