The Pokémon Company have revealed the three starter Pokémon and the release date for their upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon video-games.

Nintendo released a video announcing that the new starters are called Rowlet, Litten and Popplio. You can watch that video below:

Official descriptions of the three starters can be read below:

“Rowlet, the “Grass Quill” Pokemon, is a Grass/Flying type, making it the first starter Pokemon since Bulbasaur to start the game with two types.  According to the Pokemon Company, Rowlet can attack without making a sound and uses both its claws and razor sharp leaf feathers in battle.  Like the owls it resembles, Rowlet can see in the dark and can twist its neck 180 degrees to see directly behind itself.  This means it can twist its head in battle to look at its trainer and receive instructions.  Rowlet starts the game with a new attack, Leafage, a leafy ranged attack that’s presumably similar in power to Bubble and Ember.”

“Litten, the “Fire Cat” Pokemon, is Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Fire type starter.  Litten is a coolheaded Pokemon that balances its passionate personality with cool logic.  Litten’s fur is oily and highly flammable, which allows Litten to actually shoot out flaming furballs as an attack.  Litten can spontaneously combust its old fur in a glorious blaze and knows Ember to start off the game.”

“The final new Pokemon, Popplio, is the “Sea Lion” Water type starter Pokemon.  Popplio excels at moving through water, but can create water balloons to perform feats of acrobatics on dry land.  Popplio is the mischievous Pokemon of the starters and often gets carried away with playful antics in battle. However, Popplio is hardworking and can be found practicing its moves outside of battle.  Popplio starts the game with the Water Gun attack.”

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are scheduled for release on November 18th, 2016. The games will be set in a new region, the Alola region, which appears (from the video) to be based on Hawaii. Volcanoes, mountains and coastlines all feature in the video.

Thoughts on the new starter Pokémon? Which one are you most looking forward to playing as in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon?
