Colossus Deadpool Movie

Fox’s Deadpool movie has been smashing box office records since its release. Recently, Everything Geek Podcast host Ruari Williamson had the opportunity to talk to actor Stefan Kapicic, who plays Colossus in the film, in an interview that took place a day before its US release on February 12th.

They discussed a range of topics (including the challenges bringing Colossus to life and the contrast to the Colossus in the X-Men films), but perhaps the most interesting was Kapicic’s casting in the role.

Williamson asked Kapicic about how he was originally cast as Colossus, to which the latter replied:

“That was a normal procedure in the beginning. It was a ‘hush-hush’ movie and I got the sides. I didn’t know what I was going for but after a few rounds of auditioning the guys from 20th Century Fox switched the name and they put ‘Wade’ so as a comic book geek I knew it was Wade Wilson. I knew I was going for some Russian superhero so I knew that can only be Colossus. That helped me a lot so then I switched my audition and I was trying to get as close as I can to the Colossus character. After that they flew me into Los Angeles and I was doing a performance creation in Montenegro so I only had a three day gap. I flew to LA and had a test shoot with {director} Tim Miller which was supposed to be four hours but lasted for eight. I finished it, sat on a plane and flew back to Montenegro. I arrived two hours before my performance so it felt like a dream and then they called me and said I’d got the role of Colossus. That was a dream and thank God for that.”

You can hear the clip where he says this below (he also discusses his comic book fandom in the clip):
