Willem Dafoe’s (Spider-Man, Platoon, Antichrist, The Grand Budapest Hotel) role in the Justice League movie has been revealed.

Dafoe will be playing one of Aquaman’s biggest supporting characters in Vulko. News outlets spotted concept art on the set of the Justice League production which mentioned his role.

Vulko will have a full-on royal Atlantean costume when he appears in Justice League. It’s unknown how large of a role he will play but it’s expected that he will also appear in in the standalone Aquaman movie in 2018.

A description of the character in DC Comics is as follows:

“Created by Bob Haney and Howard Purcell, Vulko is an Atlantean politician and a mentor to Aquaman. He offers level and sound advice in time of crisis and lives as the city’s oldest dignitary. Prior to Aquaman’s rule, Nuidis Vulko was around for his birth. He argued against the curse of Kordax and refused to abandon Aquaman.”

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”

The Justice League film is scheduled for release on November 17th, 2017. Its currently untitled sequel will follow on June 14th, 2019.
