Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Original Trilogy character Mon Mothma (seen in the trailer for the upcoming film) will have a “significant role” in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Quoted in a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, Kennedy said:
“We actually see quite a bit of her. The Rebel Alliance is in disarray. Pretty panicked. Up against it. And she is trying the best she can to provide the leadership, in amongst a wide variety of Rebel soldiers that have very differing opinions as to what to do.”
Kennedy and EW made it clear that Mothma will have a larger role in Rogue One than she had in her debut Star Wars film, Return of the Jedi (1983). EW have described her as being the “Mother of the Rebellion”.
Rogue One’s Mon Mothma will be played by Irish actress Genevieve O’Reilly. O’Reilly previously portrayed the character for Revenge of the Sith (2005) but her scenes were cut from the final film.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on December 16th, 2016.
