The confirmation of Darth Vader’s return to the big-screen has been followed by character profiles for all of the main characters in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The character profiles are as follows:
Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones):
Lucasfilm president and Rogue One producer Kathleen Kennedy has described Jyn as having “a checkered past.” She went on to say that Jyn has been detained [by the Rebellion] and is being given an opportunity to be useful. And by being useful, it may commute her sentence… She’s a real survivor. She becomes a kind of Joan of Arc in the story.”
Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)
Captain Cassian Andor is more of the Obi-Wan Kenobi mould, as he is a by-the book Rebel intelligence officer. Kiri Hart, Lucasfilm’s chief of story development spoke about his personality further “He conveys a fair amount of experience and the reality of what it’s like to do this every day, to try to figure out how to resist the Empire effectively and intelligently, it’s not easy.”
Galen Erso (Mads Mikklesen)
Jyn’s estranged father possesses doomsday knowledge that is sought by both the Empire and the Rebellion. “He’s one of those people that has insight into you know specific aspects of just how the universe works,” says Hart. On the relationship between Galen and his daughter, Hart went on to say “The circumstances of how the family got to the state that it’s in is something that we probably don’t want to share right now,” Hart says. Strikingly, Lucasfilm has yet to reveal an on-screen image of his character.
Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen)
Pronounced chi-RUT, he is devoted to Jedi ways, but himself is no jedi. He has used the spiritual powers to overcome his blindess. “Chirrut falls into the category of being a warrior monk,” says Kennedy. “He very much still believes in everything the Jedi were about.” He maintains that belief even though the Jedi are no longer there to protect the galaxy.
Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen)
Heavily armored, Baze prefers the use of a blaster to a staff or lightsaber, yet is devoted to protecting his friend Chirrut at all costs. “He understands Chirrut’s spiritual centeredness, but he doesn’t necessarily support it,” Kennedy says. Baze goes along with this Force business because “it’s what his friend deeply believes,” she adds.
Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed)
Bodhi is this Rebel squad’s lead pilot. “He flies a lot of cargo, one of his key jobs,” Kennedy says. “And he tends to be a little tense, a little volatile, but everybody in the group really relies on his technical skills.”
K-2SO (Alan Tudyk)
This towering, powerful security droid is described by Edwards as “the antithesis of C-3PO.” In other words, he’s tough, confident, not especially interested in “human/cyborg relations.” “Kaytoo is a little bit like Chewbacca’s personality in a droid’s body,” Edwards says. “He doesn’t give a s— about what you think. He doesn’t fully check himself before he says things and does things. He just speaks the truth.” Like Jyn, he’s also seeking a bit of redemption for past wrongs.
Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)
Orson Krennic is the principal villain of the piece. He is an ambitious Imperial Officer who intends to use his squad of Deathtroopers to crush rebel insurgent groups and gain favor with the Emperor, whilst simultaneously avoiding the wrath of his enforcer, Darth Vader. “The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,” says Knoll. “There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on December 16th, 2016.

Yesterday the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly was released with an issue focused on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The cover represented this focus but also revealed the big news that iconic villain Darth Vader will officially be appearing in the film.
A press release on the issue stated:
“In this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, we bring you an inside look at ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which explores just how the Rebellion came to possess the information that revealed the fatal flaw in the Empire’s super weapon. It’s a battlefield heist that fans have been imagining for nearly 40 years, described in the opening crawl of 1977’s original ‘Star Wars’ with little details scattered throughout.”
Full details on what the issue included are as follows:
- Official confirmation of Darth Vader’s return to the big screen.
- New information about Jyn Erso and her father, played by Mads Mikkelsen.
- Full details of the principal ‘Rebel’ characters, who are united in their efforts to topple the Empire: Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Witaker and Alan Tudyk (who plays a performance-capture droid).
- Ben Mendelsohn’s view on the ‘Imperial Ranks’ and his character’s own ambitions, notably the character’s eagerness to win favour of the Emperor and avoid the wrath of Darth Vader.
- The filmmakers give clearer revelations about what the reshoots are adding to the plot, as the film nears its cinematic release.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also revealed several details on Vader’s return to EW. Those details included:
- James Earl Jones will reprise the iconic voice of Darth Vader, at the age of 85. Jones will continue his reprisal of the Sith Lord, following recent special guest appearances on the second season of the hit Star Wars animated TV series, Star Wars: Rebels.
- Audiences will be getting “just a little bit” of Darth Vader. Kathleen Kennedy stated: “He will be used sparingly in the movie. But at a key strategic moment, he’s going to loom large”.
- Vader will remain a “background player in galactic politics”
- Kennedy described Vader as “the muscle, the fixer and the breaker, when he needs to be.”
Director Gareth Edwards teased that both the Empire and Rebels are unfamiliar with Vader, saying:
“Within the Rebellion, it’s not commonly spoken about. Within the Empire, there is a culture of knowing of the existence of Darth Vader. There’s definitely an underlying feeling there is a power – a dark power – available to the Empire and if you overstep your mark, you will suffer the consequences.”
Lucasfilm’s Chief of Story development Kiri Hart did hint, however, that Vader and Ben Mendelsohn’s character Orson Krennic know each other and are not friends, saying:
“Vader doesn’t really play by the rules. He’s present in the military structure, but he’s not beholden to it. He’s not accountable to anybody really, except Palpatine.”
Finally, Edwards revealed that he had a “fanboy” moment on the set of Rogue One when Vader showed up. He said:
“I got goosebumps. I was so nervous to turn the corner and see him. You have to pinch yourself. Everyone became children again. You just go straight back to being a 4-year-old, like, in a heartbeat. There’s all sorts of rules about security on set, but I couldn’t help it. I got my phone out and started taking pictures of him, and pictures of him with me, because I felt like no one would believe that I’d met Darth Vader.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for release on December 16th, 2016.

Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL (Deadpool, Mad Max: Fury Road, Divergent, 300: Rise of an Empire, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) will officially be composing the score for the Justice League movie.
Executive producer Deborah Snyder broke the news to several press outlets recently on the set of Justice League. Snyder said:
“Junkie is coming back to do the score. Obviously we have a lot of Hans’ music and themes. So we’ve worked with Junkie even outside of Hans so we’re really thrilled that he’s going to do the score.”
Junkie XL previously worked alongside Hans Zimmer on the score for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
The Justice League film is scheduled for release on November 17th, 2017. Its currently untitled sequel will follow on June 14th, 2019.

The villain of the Justice League movie is confirmed to be Steppenwolf. This news follows a rumour earlier in the year that he would be the main villain in the movie.
The news was broken by executive producer Deborah Snyder to several members of the press recently. She also stated that they haven’t officially cast anyone in the role yet but are close to finalising a deal with someone.
Steppenwolf will be leading an army of Parademons. The Parademons were first seen in the “Knightmare” sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Steppenwolf made his first appearance in the Justice League Cinematic Universe in a deleted scene from the film.
A description of the character in DC Comics is as follows:
“An uncle to Darkseid, Steppenwolf is one of the despot’s most trusted lieutenants. He’s been killed and resurrected more than once, the first and most notable time after he assassinated the wife of Izaya, the Highfather of New Genesis and Darkseid’s opposite number.
Steppenwolf’s sister, Heggra, was Darkseid’s mother, until she was killed by her husband. The villain is generally depicted as the great military mind behind Darkseid’s forces.”
Willem Dafoe’s (Spider-Man, Platoon, Antichrist, The Grand Budapest Hotel) role in the Justice League movie has been revealed.
Dafoe will be playing one of Aquaman’s biggest supporting characters in Vulko. News outlets spotted concept art on the set of the Justice League production which mentioned his role.
Vulko will have a full-on royal Atlantean costume when he appears in Justice League. It’s unknown how large of a role he will play but it’s expected that he will also appear in in the standalone Aquaman movie in 2018.
A description of the character in DC Comics is as follows:
“Created by Bob Haney and Howard Purcell, Vulko is an Atlantean politician and a mentor to Aquaman. He offers level and sound advice in time of crisis and lives as the city’s oldest dignitary. Prior to Aquaman’s rule, Nuidis Vulko was around for his birth. He argued against the curse of Kordax and refused to abandon Aquaman.”
