Report- Sony Developing a Ghostbusters Animated Movie

EGP Website Article Image 422

Sony are reportedly working on an animated Ghostbusters feature film, with Tom Pollock and Ivan Reitman signed on to produce the action-comedy. Sony Pictures Animation’s Ali Bell and Kristine Belson will be helping the duo by overseeing the project.

Reitman played a big part in making the original Ghostbusters films (Ghostbusters in 1984 and Ghostbusters II in 1989), serving as both the director and producer, so his experience will be key to the animated feature.

No details have been revealed on the plot or characters, but it’s said that the premise will stay the same as the original Ghostbusters films.

Also, no expected release has been reported as the news isn’t confirmed.

The Everything Geek Podcast Website is Officially LIVE!

EGP Profile Picture by Mathilde Machuel

Hello everyone,

It is with great pride I announce that the website for our Everything Geek Podcast is officially live. Just over two years ago I started up a podcast that I wanted to appeal to as many different types of fans as possible and now that we have our own website we’ve taken another big step into a larger world.

The podcast has grown tremendously in just over two years and it has shocked me how much progress we’ve made in (what I consider) a short amount of time. Yes, I do consider two years very short when you’ve got something so great to preoccupy yourself with. I’ve always wanted the podcast to have fans in mind first and not just ourselves and this website will allow people to interact with us in a much better way.

The website signals just how big we have already become and within the next couple of years you’re really going to see that as the case. Just like more geeky films and TV shows are coming out every year we’ll be adapting to go with the times. I can hint that towards the end of this year and throughout 2016 if everything goes to plan some pretty amazing things could happen.

As if being invited to a press screening of the Doctor Who Series 9 premier wasn’t proof enough…

I hope you’ll check out the website and like what you see. Even if you’re not really a geek and we know each other from other means you might still find something that interests you on our website.

Any constructive feedback (positive and negative) is greatly appreciated.

Your founder,

Ruari Williamson

Doctor Who- New Spinoff Series Announced “Class”

EGP Website Article Image 421

Several years after both Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures came to an end, a new Doctor Who spin-off series has been announced.

BBC Three made the announcement (and will air the show) and the series is titled “Class”.

The series is created by author Patrick Ness, and his aim with the new spin-off is to bring a Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Hunger Games feel to Doctor Who.

Ness is quoted as saying the following to go with the announcement:

“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.”

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat had the following to say:

“No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain – but with monsters!”

Class is executive produced by Steven Moffatt, Patrick Ness and Brian Minchin. Its debut series will consist of eight 45-minute episodes (the same timeframe as Doctor Who episodes). Where previous spin-offs Torchwood aimed at a more adult audience, and The Sarah Jane Chronicles a much younger audience, Class will be the first Doctor Who spinoff to aim at the coveted “young adult” demographic.

EGP Website Article Image 419

The popular Terminator franchise may have returned this summer with the reboot Terminator: Genisys, but the comeback wasn’t what the crew of the film were hoping for. The film underperformed and there was a mixed reaction from fans, leaving uncertainty of what to do with the franchise again.

A new report indicates that while David Ellison and Skydance Productions had two sequels and a TV program in development, everything has been put on hold indefinitely while they try to figure out what their next move is.

Confirmed- Doctor Strange Film to Include Origin Story

EGP Website Article Image 418

As Marvel move into their Phase 3 line up they’re getting more ambitious, with several lesser-known characters getting their own films (including Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel). The former, which will be released next year, will definitely include an origin story for the character.

Marvel president Kevin Feige is quoted as saying the following on Strange’s origin story:

“For some reason people sometimes talked about how we’re not doing an origin story, we’re bored of origin stories. I think people are bored of origin stories they’ve seen before or origin stories that are overly familiar. Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn’t we do that? That was sort of always the plan. How you tell that origin, perhaps there are ways to twist it or play with that, but for the most part, it’s a gift when the comics have something with such clarity of story and of character. That doesn’t always happen in the comics, and when it does, you use it.”

Doctor Strange is scheduled for release on November 4th, 2016.

Thoughts on this news? Are you looking forward to seeing Doctor Strange’s origin story on the big screen?
