Following the first four Transformers films, a large team of writers was assembled to help make the franchise expand, including names like Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and Steven S. DeKnight (Marvel’s Daredevil).
However, another of those names, Akiva Goldsman (Winter’s Tale, A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, Batman & Robin) was a leader in the room of writers looking to expand the Transformers series. Goldsman is quoted as saying the following on his experience working with the other writers:
“The room was honestly as delightful an experience as I’ve had. When you have a bunch of people who you respect, who are smart and talented, all trying to help each other figure stuff out, it’s good whether you’re all in a car heading across country for a road trip, or a writer’s room.”
While the aim is to make the films feel both ‘interconnected and standalone), they will use some of the same ideas the first four films used- particularly the human element. Goldsman had the following to say on the human element:
“Fundamentally, there seems to be something really great about the interaction between the two species, [humans and Transformers]. I think that, in the main, I would suggest that would be something you wouldn’t want to squander. That doesn’t mean that you couldn’t do all sorts of things for a little while. The prequel animated film that’s in continuity with these movies will do just that, in fact. It takes place before Optimus and Megatron ever come to Earth.”

The scene includes the long-rumoured flashback scene that had everyone talking months ago.
A summary of the long sequence is below:
- Maz leads the heroes (Han, Finn, and Rey) down a staircase into the catacombs of her castle, while she explains who Luke was, retelling the events of the original trilogy.
- When they enter the chamber in the catacombs, Maz continues the story and it goes to flashbacks (the rest of what follows takes place in flashbacks).
- Luke returns to his academy and everyone is dead, they have been slaughtered.
- We then see the outside shot of Luke saying goodbye to R2 from the trailers.
- It appears it was the Knights of Ren who did this.
- Maz explains that Luke retreats into private life.

- Naka sells the Saber to a trader for next to nothing.
- The Clan is lead by a prosperous rich man.
- The Knights of Ren have raided the Clan before.
- The Clan leader goes to the trader and buys the saber to defend against the Knights of Ren.
- The Clan fights the Knights of Ren and loses.
- Rey and her parents were part of the Clan, but they escape the attack.
- Shot from the trailer is the Knights of Ren after having slaughtered the Clan.
- Kylo sees Rey during the attack.
- Kylo gets the Saber, but Maz steals it.
- The family gets away and drops Rey off on Jakku and have never gone back for her.

A description of the character as he will appear in the show is below:
“Though ferociously smart and eminently capable in his work as one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora (casting TBA), who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease. Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, so as her condition worsens, he goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. Rumours have been circling for months that Chris Pine (Star Trek, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) would be cast in DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman film, likely as the title characters boyfriend Steve Trevor.
While he didn’t confirm the character he will be playing, Pine has finally revealed that he has indeed been cast in Wonder Woman.
Pine is quoted as saying the following:
“I’m super excited, of course, Gal Gadot is super talented, Patty Jenkins will perform, and we will shoot in film … What excites me most is to turn in a movie with a superhero woman. With a woman in the lead role. I am a team with this intelligent, beautiful and strong [woman] to destroy the wicked and save humanity. The routine, whatever.”
We’ll have to wait for official details on the character he’ll be playing, though rumours are bound to persist that he will play Steve Trevor.
