The Big Bang Theory Episode Review- “The Earworm Reverberation”

EGP Website Review Image 224

The latest episode of The Big Bang Theory sees Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler get back together as returning character Dave looks on awkwardly. Although, he did just have one of the best lines in The Big Bang Theory history… so at least he has that going for him.

In my opinion, the dynamic and twists in Sheldon and Amy’s relationship has been one of the best parts of this season of The Big Bang Theory. It has consistently kept me enthralled and intrigued to see where the writers take the relationship next, even with both characters separated as of a few episodes ago. However, this episode sees the two get back together in typical The Big Bang Theory fashion- with some outlandish humour thrown into the mix. The plot-line with the song that Sheldon can’t get out of his head was a very neat idea by the writers.

EGP Website Review Image 223

The episode also features the return of Dave, Amy’s English boyfriend who was recently introduced. Given how entertaining his character was, I was very happy we got to see more of the character. He’s still just as entertaining as before and his line to encourage Sheldon to kiss Amy was perfectly timed. Like before, Dave added a bundle of laughs to an episode that was solid on the humour front, but he made the humour stand out a lot more.

Outside of Sheldon and Amy, we learn that Raj (behind Howard’s back) set up a webpage for their band “Footprints on the Moon” and that they have one fan called Trent. They track him down to a coffee shop but leave after seeing his gross behaviour. These scenes added a few extra laughs (albeit awkward laughs) but otherwise I felt like they didn’t have any significance and I felt they were only included so Howard and Raj did appear in this episode.

EGP Website Review Image 222

In my opinion, this was an excellent episode of The Big Bang Theory. It was great to see Sheldon and Amy finally get back together. Dave was an entertaining character again and he added a lot of humour to the episode, though the Howard and Raj scenes fell a little flat on the humour front.

Star Wars Rebels Episode Review- “Legacy”

EGP Website Review Image 221

The latest episode of Star Wars: Rebels reveals the fate of Ezra Bridger’s parents and shows the Empire forcing the rebels away from Garel.

If there’s one thing the Star Wars: Rebels crew knows how to do, it’s how to tear the heartstrings of viewers. During Star Wars: The Clone Wars the writers showed they knew what to do in emotional scenes, but even going into Rebels they have consistently been challenging viewers emotions in new ways. The reveal that Ezra’s parents are dead stands out as one of the most emotional scenes in Rebels so far.

The fate of Ezra’s parents has always been an interesting subject on Rebels. We’re introduced to Ezra a teenage boy on his own and we see (later on in the first season) that he believes his parents are dead. However, through visions he has early in this episode, Ezra believes they’re alive and meets Ryder Azadi (the former governor of Lothal) who tells him the truth- Ezra’s parents were killed during an escape from an Imperial prison after being inspired by Ezra’s speech in last season’s episode “Call to Action”. Ezra’s sadness and hallucination of his parents are really hard to watch because you get invested in his emotions and this shows that the cast and crew did a great job on this reveal.

EGP Website Review Image 219

As much as the Bridger story-line was the main focus of the episode, I would have liked to see more of the Empire’s attack on Garel. It was really interesting to see recurring Imperials like Agent Kallus, Seventh Sister, Fifth Brother and Admiral Konstantine working together and it would have been nice to see more of the assault. That said, this didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the episode or how strong it was.

The episode also features the return to Lothal, its first appearance since the episode “The Siege of Lothal”. It was great to see Ezra and Kanan Jarrus back on Lothal and it was interesting to see Lothal in a new way as well- the look of Capital City in Ezra’s hallucination was its appearance prior to the arrival of the Empire on Lothal.

EGP Website Review Image 220

In my opinion, this was an outstanding episode of Star Wars: Rebels. It hit viewers’ right in the feels with the revelation of the deaths of Ezra’s parents. The rebels being forced to leave Garel will also make for an interesting plot-line in the second half of the season.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Episode Review- “Maveth”

EGP Website Review Image 216

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D third season’s mid-season finale sees the death of a long-time villain, a big character moment for Phil Coulson and the return of Coulson and Fitz from Maveth.

It looks like my speculation in my review of last week’s episode “Closure” was accurate. Grant Ward is finally dead but viewers can still expect to see his presence on the show, just not as we knew him before.

I think the decision to kill off Ward was a bold decision by the writers, but considering the amount of pain he has dealt to the main characters he had to die eventually. Seriously, were there any of the main characters he didn’t hurt in some way? I thought his death scene was handled really well- with Coulson crushing his heart with his metallic hand in front of Leo Fitz. Ward’s death was certainly impactful and I’m sure the rest of the characters will find out what Coulson did very soon.

Note: Even though Coulson is having imaginations of Rosalind Price as he’s killing Ward, I also think he was picturing other people Ward killed that he knew like Victoria Hand and Billy Koenig.

EGP Website Review Image 217

This episode sees the return of Will Daniels, who it turns out died saving Jemma Simmons and has been taken over by It. Fitz manages to take out It but It later takes control of Ward’s body following the latter’s death.

Maveth was (again) visually appealing and made me want to see even more of it after this episode, but it’s unlikely we’ll see it again after another portal closed.

The episode also shows Andrew Garner/Lash escaping from HYDRA. I have a feeling this development will have a lot of significance in the second half of the season…

The episode ends with It (now fully in control of Ward’s body and on Earth) intercepting Gideon Malick’s vehicle. We’ll have to wait and see what It’s plan is.

EGP Website Review Image 218

In my opinion, this was an excellent mid-season finale from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The death of Grant Ward really hit home and was really hard to watch as a viewer of the show since its first day. The reveal that Will Daniels had been killed and taken over by It was an interesting twist, with It later taking over Ward’s body. This episode was a big game-changer for Phil Coulson as well.
