Captain America’s Frank Grillo Talks Returning for Civil War & the Crossbones Suit

Last week we had the pleasure of interviewing actor Frank Grillo. Grillo made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Brock Rumlow (aka Crossbones) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier two years ago. He reprised the role for Captain America: Civil War, which was released last Friday in the United States (our interview with him took place on the Tuesday of that week).

While Rumlow’s contribution to The Winter Soldier was significant, Grillo never actually got to don the iconic Crossbones suit in that movie. However, he was finally given the opportunity to wear the suit in Civil War.

“The suit, I think, is the coolest part of Civil War,” he said. “I love Crossbones and I love the way they brought him back as far as the look. Unfortunately he’s not in the movie as much as I’d like him to be. That’s the only downside of it but his impact is felt throughout the movie which is great.

“It’s part of the business,” he said. “Sometimes you don’t get to do the movie as much as you want.”

The last fans saw of Rumlow in The Winter Soldier was the character badly burned and scarred following his fight with The Falcon. On the subject of what Rumlow’s objectives were in Civil War following the events of The Winter Soldier, Grillo said, “I think there’s two things. I think one is revenge. He was friends with Steve Rogers so I think revenge is part of it and I think on the bigger broader scope is to start a problem between the Avengers that would create mayhem. I think if there’s a plot device in Crossbones that’s it.”

Finally, Grillo talked about the contract he signed with Marvel Studios when he originally landed the role and whether he knew he would be playing Rumlow in more than one movie. He said, “Yes, I did. I signed on for six movies and when we sat down with Marvel in the beginning it was an origin story. We were expecting to see Brock Rumlow and see more of him with the way it was presented.”

He added, “After Cap 2 was so successful and the Russo’s took over I think Civil War became something that really came on strong and they wanted to develop that story. Marvel doesn’t necessarily stick to the comic mythology in the comic books but they do use the characters in different ways.”

You can listen to these extracts from our interview with Frank Grillo below (and our full interview with him further down the page):

Captain America: Civil War is out in cinemas now.

Confirmed- ABC Have Cancelled Marvel’s Agent Carter Series

EGP Website Article Image 1651

ABC have decided not to renew Marvel’s Agent Carter series for a third season. This news comes in spite of the second season ending on a major cliff-hanger.

The series, led by Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), premiered in 2015 as a midseason series that aired in-between both halves of that season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

While Agent Carter debuted to critical acclaim it struggled to find an audience. The first season finale only had 4 million viewers and the series finale (which aired a couple of months ago) was watched by less than 2.5 million people.

Thoughts on this news? Are you saddened by the cancellation of Marvel’s Agent Carter?

EGP Website Article Image 1650

ABC have decided not to move forward with the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D spin-off Marvel’s Most Wanted.

The show would have starred Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood- reprising their roles of Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird and Lance Hunter from S.H.I.E.L.D respectively.

Oded Fehr, Delroy Lindo and Fernanda Andrade had been cast in co-starring roles. Paul Zbyszewski was the writer of the series.

Confirmed- Supergirl Renewed for a Second Season & Moves to the CW

EGP Website Article Image 1649

Supergirl is moving to The CW for its second season.

Supergirl joins the other DC Comics properties on the network which includes Arrow, The Flash, iZombie and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

CBS head Les Moonves previously stated that the network planned to renew all of its freshman series, including Supergirl. However, new reports indicate that CBS and Warner Bros. had been sparring over licensing fees.

While the show had the biggest debut of the 2015/2016 season, it lost half of its viewers over the course of the first season. While it remained as one of the networks biggest shows even after losing half of its viewership, the series was very expensive to make. It’s reported that Supergirl costs about $3 million to make per episode (not taking licensing fees into account).

The first season was shot in Los Angeles, but this report indicates that the second season will instead be filmed in Vancouver. Tax incentives in Vancouver will reduce the cost of producing the show.

No details on where The CW will place Supergirl in their timeslot have been revealed. It’s also unknown if any of the cast members will be unwilling to trek to Canada to shoot there.

Thoughts on this news? Are you looking forward to another season of Supergirl?

Rumour- Steppenwolf to be the Main Villain in The Justice League: Part One

EGP Website Article Image 1646

Steppenwolf is rumoured to be the main villain of The Justice League: Part One, the first part of the two-part movie that will create the team of DC Comics heroes known as the Justice League.

Many DC fans assumed that Darkseid would be the main villain of The Justice League: Part One after being teased in Batman’s Knightmare scene during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, this new rumour indicates that the scene was also teasing Steppenwolf (who will actually be the main villain of the movie).

It should also be noted that Steppenwolf did appear in a deleted scene from Batman v Superman involving Lex Luthor and the Kryptonian ship.

The report states:

“Steppenwolf will have a contentious history with Darkseid, and while Darkseid will be in the film in some form or another, it might not be until the end, setting up the second part of Justice League.”

The Justice League: Part One is scheduled for release on November 17th, 2017. Part Two will follow on June 14th, 2019.

Thoughts on this rumour? Would you like to see Steppenwolf as the main villain of The Justice League: Part One?
