Everything Geek Podcast: A Look Ahead At Our 2020 Plans
Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all well, that you had a great Christmas and that you’ve all had a great start to 2020. I’m sorry it took so long to write this post but things have been really busy for me in 2020 so far between my job and personal life. I’d hoped to write this post very early in January but life got in the way of that unfortunately. I wanted to write this post to give you all a look ahead at some of our plans for 2020.
First of all thanks for all of your support in 2019. 2019 was one of our biggest years yet and we’re hoping 2020 will be even bigger and better. We’ve got a lot of great plans for this year. June will mark seven years of the podcast, which is crazy to me as I can still remember when we started the podcast back in 2013. I had no idea back then that we’d still be doing the podcast seven years later or that we’d keep getting fantastic interviews but here we are. We wouldn’t still be here without your support and listening to our podcast so thanks for everything over the years. Regardless of whether you started following us last year, earlier or even the first few weeks of 2020 your support means a lot to us. We hope to bring you a lot more great interviews this year and other content.
Interviewing cast and crew members from films, TV shows and video games is one of the things we do most regularly and it’s personally what I enjoy doing most on EGP. I think it’s fascinating to talk to cast and crew members (regardless of how big or small their role was) about working on a project or projects that I’m a big fan of. Confirming and announcing new guests for the podcast is very time-consuming but very much worth it when we get to interview them and when we get your feedback on the interviews. Feedback is one of the most important things for us regardless of whether it’s positive or negative as we do look to improve our show and get more exciting interviews from a variety of different media. We’ve got a lot of fantastic guests confirmed who we’re looking forward to announcing and interviewing.
We had a lot of great interviews last year. Some of the interview highlights for me in 2019 were our interviews with Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, The Flash, Call of Duty: Black Ops III), Tiya Sircar (Star Wars Rebels, The Vampire Diaries, Supergirl), William Sadler (Iron Man 3, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Shawshank Redemption, Die Hard 2), Wayne Grayson (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Erica Schroeder (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon), Amy Louise Pemberton (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series), Myrna Velasco (Star Wars Resistance, DC Super Hero Girls), Chad Michael Collins (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), Michael Greyeyes (Fear The Walking Dead, True Detective), Kurt Farquhar (Black Lightning) and Theresa Buchheister (Pokémon). Every guest that was on EGP last year was very kind and fantastic to interview. I want to thank everyone that was a guest on the podcast last year as we really enjoyed talking to you and really appreciate that you joined us on the podcast. We hope to talk to you again sometime.
We’re planning to continue branching out into more new themes with our guests next year in regards to different films, TV shows and video games. In 2019 we started interviewing guests from The Originals, Legacies, Battlestar Galactica, Black Lightning, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS and Star Wars Resistance. We were very excited to start interviewing guests from these last year. We’ll be interviewing more guests from these soon and branching out into more new media this year.
2020 is going to be a big year for Star Wars guests on EGP. Late 2019 saw the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. I loved all three of them and I’m very excited to start interviewing guests from them on EGP very soon. We’ve already got guests confirmed for all three of them and look forward to confirming more.
In fact, our first two guest announcements of the new year are coming tomorrow and both are The Mandalorian guests. We’re very excited to start announcing and interviewing The Mandalorian guests. We’re really excited for the future of The Mandalorian with the second season coming late in 2020.
We’ll also be interviewing new guests from the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy this year, which we’re excited about. We (and especially myself) are also very excited for the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and we’ve definitely got lots of The Clone Wars interviews planned and coming up. We’re really excited for the final season of the show.
We’ll also be branching out into more Star Wars media we haven’t had guests from before. Looking forward to revealing more on these.
This year we’ll also be interviewing a lot more guests from The CW’s Arrowverse DC shows. This year feels like the perfect time to interview a lot more guests from the Arrowverse with Arrow ending this year. We’ll be interviewing numerous Arrow guests this year in particular but also guests from the other Arrowverse shows. We’re very excited for these interviews as well.
Other big highlights for me last year included going to more conventions with press passes. I attended Film & Comic Con Belfast in March and Dublin Comic Con Summer Edition in August. I’m very grateful to the teams of both cons for giving me press passes to their events and I’m looking forward to attending more conventions this year. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some interviews from cons this year as well.
We’re hoping to work with more networks and their publicity teams as well. We’ve worked with some in the past like Lucasfilm, The CW, Fox and Dreamworks and hope to work with them again. Lucasfilm Animation set up our interview with Star Wars Resistance star Myrna Velasco last year, which we are very grateful for. We’re hoping to work with them again soon.
We know that in the last year or two we haven’t uploaded to our YouTube channel as regularly as we used to and should be. It has gotten harder to upload as regularly to the channel but I’m hoping this year it will be different and we can upload more often. I’ve been learning how to edit so I can edit interviews for the channel and hopefully other members of our team will help with editing interviews too. I have a few interviews edited by Máirin in the past that we’ll be uploading very soon. After that, I’m going to try and start having regular days that we will upload interviews every week. Like, that we’ll aim to upload a certain number of interviews every week and on specific days. I think that would help both us and you the listeners if we try to have a regular uploading schedule. It’s something I’m hoping to try soon. We also intend to get back to doing toy reviews soon as well as uploading interviews.
We’re hoping that this year will be one of the biggest – if not THE – biggest for EGP so far. Thanks, as always, for your continued support and I look forward to bringing a lot more fantastic Everything Geek Podcast content this year.
