Everything Geek Podcast: A Look Ahead to 2018

Hello everyone,

We’re now a few days into 2018 so I wanted to make this post to talk about what an eventful year 2017 was for our Everything Geek Podcast team and give a look ahead into what 2018 holds for us. This summer will mark five years of the podcast which we’re very excited about and we’re looking forward to bringing you a lot more great content this year.

However, I firstly want to thank all of you for your continued support of EGP. It means so much to myself and the rest of the team and we’re looking forward to providing a lot more for you this year. Regardless of whether you started following us last year, or earlier, your support means a lot and we really appreciate it.

One of the highlights for me of running this podcast is getting to interview cast and crew members from our favourite films, TV shows, video-games and more. Confirming new interviews is very time consuming and a lot of hard work but it makes it all the more worthwhile when we chat to the guests and especially when they’re as nice as most of our guests have been. It also makes the time spent contacting potential guests, or their team, even more worthwhile when we read the feedback you leave for us (especially if it’s positive) on the interviews and the feedback is one of the most important things to us regardless of whether it’s positive or negative. We’re always looking for ways to improve our show and get more exciting interviews. We’ve got a lot of plans for exciting guests this year and I’ll talk about that further into this post.

Some of the interview highlights of 2017 included interviews with Tom Skerritt (Alien), David Mazouz, Camren Bicondova, Robin Lord Taylor and Sean Pertwee (Gotham), Blair Redford and Coby Bell (The Gifted), Veronica Taylor (Pokémon), Amy Birnbaum (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon), Aleks Paunovic (War for the Planet of the Apes), Patrick Gilmore (SGU Stargate Universe), Gabriel Luna (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Tom Pelphrey (Marvel’s Iron Fist), David Sobolov (Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, The Flash), Zack Pearlman (Dragons: Race to the Edge), Cassandra Lee Morris (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX), Laurie Hymes (Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!) and Matt Shipman (Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V) but everyone that was a guest on EGP last year were very kind and the list would have been a lot longer if I named everyone. I want to thank everyone who was a guest on our podcast last year as we really enjoyed talking to all of you and hope to interview you again sometime. Most of the interviews mentioned above are already up on our YouTube channel but the ones that aren’t will be soon. It was also great to have popular guests Haven Paschall (Pokémon) and Douglas Sloan/Art Brown (Dragons: Race to the Edge) on the podcast again this year.

We’re also planning to continue to branch out into more new themes. Last year we started interviewing guests from the Planet of the Apes films, Stargate and The Vampire Diaries among others. We definitely plan to interview more guests from those themes this year. We also interviewed three cast members from the new Call of Duty (Call of Duty: WWII) and we’ll be interviewing more guests from that game soon as well as uploading those three interviews to YouTube.

Other big highlights for me last year were attending more conventions with press passes and working with TV networks again to schedule exciting interviews. I attended four conventions last year and was fortunate enough to be given press passes for all of them. Those cons were Film & Comic Con Belfast (March), MCM Ireland Comic Con (July), Dublin Comic Con (August) and LeakyCon (August/September). I wasn’t able to get a lot of interviews between them but I was still able to interview The Walking Dead’s Andrew Rothenberg and Doctor Who’s Camille Coduri at the Belfast event and Harry Potter’s Afshan Azad at LeakyCon. At LeakyCon I was also able to attend a press conference for the first time which was with Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch and I was able to ask her a few questions (you can find the video on YouTube here). I’m hopeful to get a lot more interviews at cons this year but I’m very grateful to the teams at Film & Comic Con, MCM, DCC and LeakyCon for giving me press passes to the events last year. I’m looking forward to attending more cons this year.

Likewise, I’m also grateful to the Fox and Dreamworks publicity teams for arranging interviews for us again this year. Between Gotham (four interviews) and The Gifted (two interviews) Fox arranged six interviews for us this year and we’re very grateful for all of their help. With Gotham returning in May and The Gifted recently renewed for a second season we’re very hopeful of working with them again this year. Likewise we’re hopeful of working with Dreamworks again when the sixth and final season of Dragons: Race to the Edge will be released this year. We’re also hoping to work with some other networks that we haven’t scheduled interviews with before. Stay tuned for more info on that.

I can tease that one network we worked with before back in 2016, The CW, will potentially be scheduling another Arrow star for EGP soon. I don’t want to say too much in case I jinx it but there have been talks and we’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce someone soon.

We have a lot of other plans for this year than just more interviews and attending conventions. We’re aiming to be a lot more up to date with our convention reports and have multiple members of the team writing reports on cons from across the world rather than just me writing about the ones I attend. We’re also committed to this year being the year we finally set up on iTunes and we’re looking into other places to share our content as well. We did a few analysis shows last year and we intend for them to happen a lot more regularly this year. We’ll also be posting on the website a lot more again soon with news articles and film/TV episode reviews.

We wanted to also let you know that we’ll be making updates to the website soon including a long overdue update to the guest index. If you have any suggestions for how to improve the website please feel free to let us know.

We’ve got a lot of exciting interview plans this year as well. We’re hoping to be more on top of things with film releases and the return of TV shows this year (for the analysis shows as well) and scheduling appearances of certain guests to time well with the release of a film from a particular franchise. EG: A Star Wars guest around the time Solo: A Star Wars Story is released. We’ll also be announcing guests soon from a number of films and TV shows that were released in the second half of last year including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel’s The Punisher and Marvel’s The Defenders. We’re also planning to have numerous guests on this year to mark the tenth anniversaries of Iron Man, The Dark Knight and Star Wars: The Clone Wars respectively. We also intend to upload interviews and other content like toy reviews to YouTube more frequently this year than we did last year.

We’re hoping that this year will be the biggest year for EGP so far. Thanks, as always, for your continued support and I look forward to providing a lot more content for you during the course of this year.
