The latest episode of The Big Bang Theory sees Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler get back together as returning character Dave looks on awkwardly. Although, he did just have one of the best lines in The Big Bang Theory history… so at least he has that going for him.
In my opinion, the dynamic and twists in Sheldon and Amy’s relationship has been one of the best parts of this season of The Big Bang Theory. It has consistently kept me enthralled and intrigued to see where the writers take the relationship next, even with both characters separated as of a few episodes ago. However, this episode sees the two get back together in typical The Big Bang Theory fashion- with some outlandish humour thrown into the mix. The plot-line with the song that Sheldon can’t get out of his head was a very neat idea by the writers.
The episode also features the return of Dave, Amy’s English boyfriend who was recently introduced. Given how entertaining his character was, I was very happy we got to see more of the character. He’s still just as entertaining as before and his line to encourage Sheldon to kiss Amy was perfectly timed. Like before, Dave added a bundle of laughs to an episode that was solid on the humour front, but he made the humour stand out a lot more.
Outside of Sheldon and Amy, we learn that Raj (behind Howard’s back) set up a webpage for their band “Footprints on the Moon” and that they have one fan called Trent. They track him down to a coffee shop but leave after seeing his gross behaviour. These scenes added a few extra laughs (albeit awkward laughs) but otherwise I felt like they didn’t have any significance and I felt they were only included so Howard and Raj did appear in this episode.
In my opinion, this was an excellent episode of The Big Bang Theory. It was great to see Sheldon and Amy finally get back together. Dave was an entertaining character again and he added a lot of humour to the episode, though the Howard and Raj scenes fell a little flat on the humour front.

The latest episode of Star Wars: Rebels reveals the fate of Ezra Bridger’s parents and shows the Empire forcing the rebels away from Garel.
If there’s one thing the Star Wars: Rebels crew knows how to do, it’s how to tear the heartstrings of viewers. During Star Wars: The Clone Wars the writers showed they knew what to do in emotional scenes, but even going into Rebels they have consistently been challenging viewers emotions in new ways. The reveal that Ezra’s parents are dead stands out as one of the most emotional scenes in Rebels so far.
The fate of Ezra’s parents has always been an interesting subject on Rebels. We’re introduced to Ezra a teenage boy on his own and we see (later on in the first season) that he believes his parents are dead. However, through visions he has early in this episode, Ezra believes they’re alive and meets Ryder Azadi (the former governor of Lothal) who tells him the truth- Ezra’s parents were killed during an escape from an Imperial prison after being inspired by Ezra’s speech in last season’s episode “Call to Action”. Ezra’s sadness and hallucination of his parents are really hard to watch because you get invested in his emotions and this shows that the cast and crew did a great job on this reveal.
As much as the Bridger story-line was the main focus of the episode, I would have liked to see more of the Empire’s attack on Garel. It was really interesting to see recurring Imperials like Agent Kallus, Seventh Sister, Fifth Brother and Admiral Konstantine working together and it would have been nice to see more of the assault. That said, this didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the episode or how strong it was.
The episode also features the return to Lothal, its first appearance since the episode “The Siege of Lothal”. It was great to see Ezra and Kanan Jarrus back on Lothal and it was interesting to see Lothal in a new way as well- the look of Capital City in Ezra’s hallucination was its appearance prior to the arrival of the Empire on Lothal.
In my opinion, this was an outstanding episode of Star Wars: Rebels. It hit viewers’ right in the feels with the revelation of the deaths of Ezra’s parents. The rebels being forced to leave Garel will also make for an interesting plot-line in the second half of the season.

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D third season’s mid-season finale sees the death of a long-time villain, a big character moment for Phil Coulson and the return of Coulson and Fitz from Maveth.
It looks like my speculation in my review of last week’s episode “Closure” was accurate. Grant Ward is finally dead but viewers can still expect to see his presence on the show, just not as we knew him before.
I think the decision to kill off Ward was a bold decision by the writers, but considering the amount of pain he has dealt to the main characters he had to die eventually. Seriously, were there any of the main characters he didn’t hurt in some way? I thought his death scene was handled really well- with Coulson crushing his heart with his metallic hand in front of Leo Fitz. Ward’s death was certainly impactful and I’m sure the rest of the characters will find out what Coulson did very soon.
Note: Even though Coulson is having imaginations of Rosalind Price as he’s killing Ward, I also think he was picturing other people Ward killed that he knew like Victoria Hand and Billy Koenig.
This episode sees the return of Will Daniels, who it turns out died saving Jemma Simmons and has been taken over by It. Fitz manages to take out It but It later takes control of Ward’s body following the latter’s death.
Maveth was (again) visually appealing and made me want to see even more of it after this episode, but it’s unlikely we’ll see it again after another portal closed.
The episode also shows Andrew Garner/Lash escaping from HYDRA. I have a feeling this development will have a lot of significance in the second half of the season…
The episode ends with It (now fully in control of Ward’s body and on Earth) intercepting Gideon Malick’s vehicle. We’ll have to wait and see what It’s plan is.
In my opinion, this was an excellent mid-season finale from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The death of Grant Ward really hit home and was really hard to watch as a viewer of the show since its first day. The reveal that Will Daniels had been killed and taken over by It was an interesting twist, with It later taking over Ward’s body. This episode was a big game-changer for Phil Coulson as well.

The Series 9 finale of Doctor Who sees The Doctor return to Gallifrey, Clara Oswald briefly make a return to the world, the return of the Time Lords and the debut of a new sonic screwdriver.
I always say that I like to get my criticisms out of the way first (a recurring theme on the podcast) so I’ll be getting into my criticisms of this episode right away. As I’ve said before, Clara Oswald was one of my favourite Doctor Who companions and I was really sad when she died in “Face the Raven”. However, I feel like she took away from this episode in time that could have been used to focus on other aspects. For example: We really (when you think about it) don’t see that much of Gallifrey and the Time Lords, which is unfortunate considering this is the first episode since “Day of the Doctor” to feature them- where we learn that the planet was frozen in time.
A number of fans criticised the decision to turn The Master into a female character (Missy) in the previous series. The criticism was as a result of a Time Lord changing genders when regenerating, which some fans didn’t like. However, I think it turned out to be an excellent move and I think Missy definitely has a lot of The Master’s characteristics. This episode features another male-female regeneration, but the regeneration of The General into a female was handled poorly in my opinion. With Missy there was relevance to the plot and story the writers were going for, but I felt that The General’s regeneration was forced into the story and unnecessary (plus removed outstanding actor Ken Bones from Doctor Who). I honestly feel that if the writers wanted this regeneration they should’ve had a reason for it happening. I have nothing against the idea or male characters regenerating into females (or vice versa) as long as it’s relevant to the plot.
In regard to Clara, while I think her return took away from other aspects of the episode, the writers are able to explore a more heartfelt and sad ending for the character with the scenes of The Doctor and Clara in the restaurant. We see how The Doctor will do anything to keep Clara alive but (in a shocking twist) ends up losing his memories of Clara because of the things he does in the episode. Clara’s final moments on Doctor Who show her and Ashildr (who makes another return) travelling away in a TARDIS which The Doctor had stolen.
A number of characters return in this episode. Lord Rassilon returns (and is quickly banished from Gallifrey) and The General returns (and is quickly killed and regenerated). The writers did an excellent job of exploring The Doctor’s anger at the Time Lords and it was interesting to see The Doctor acting as the president of Gallifrey, albeit briefly. Ohila and the Sisterhood of Karn also return, and as mentioned above Ashildr returns as well.
The episode concludes with The Doctor entering his TARDIS and receiving a new sonic screwdriver. While The Doctor flies off into space, Clara and Ashildr are flying in the same area on their TARDIS.
In my opinion, this was a very good episode of Doctor Who. While it had its flaws with Clara taking away from other aspects of the episodes and The Genera’s forced regeneration, it doesn’t take away from a solid episode. Clara gets another good send-off and it was nice to see Gallifrey and Lord Rassilon again, though both should have been featured more. I’m looking forward to seeing more of The Doctor’s new sonic screwdriver.

The latest episode of Pokémon XY sees Serena take part in her third Pokémon Showcase, with Shauna, Nini and Jessie (“Jessilee”) as familiar characters acting as rivals for the episode.
In my opinion, the Pokémon Showcase episodes have been some of the best in the XY series. While I originally thought that they would be too similar Pokémon Contests (seen in the Advanced and then the Diamond & Pearl shows), each new Showcase episode continues to prove me wrong. While I did have a couple of flaws with this episode it was still another strong episode featuring a Pokémon Showcase.
While I like how the writers have changed up each Showcase with a different type of theme performance, I honestly didn’t think a quiz suited the Showcase, not to mention the questions asked were really easy to answer. At the end of the day, Pokémon is a kid’s show and they want to keep it easy enough for kids to follow but I wasn’t a big fan of the quiz as a performance. However, if the questions had been a bit more difficult I might have liked the quiz more.
However, the freestyle performance was (once again) an excellent part of a Showcase episode. The performances, particularly from Serena, were outstanding and visually looked very appealing to watch. Seeing Serena win her second princess key (drawing her level with Shauna) was great to watch and you can see why she won it when watching the episode.
In terms of characters, I was surprised that Nini was brought back from her debut in the episode “Pathways to Performance Partnering”. While I thought she was a decent character, I didn’t feel like she was particularly memorable but the writers probably decided it made sense to make her a full rival of Serena’s which would make sense.
We also got some quality screen-time for Serena’s Eevee in this episode, with the screen-time exploring how scared Eevee gets in a large crowd (with Jessie’s freestyle performance scaring Eevee to the extent that it leaves the performance hall). I think it was a great idea on the writer’s part to explore how Serena is willing to give up the contest to protect Eevee. Fortunately (for Serena and the viewers), she was able to win the Showcase after finding Eevee.
Following the showcase, the group of Ash, Serena, Clemont and Bonnie say goodbye to Shauna and Tierno- with Shauna and Tierno leaving to help Trevor find his belongings.
In my opinion, this was another excellent episode of Pokémon XY. Serena winning the Anistar City Showcase (and her second princess key) is another major step for the character. The episode was also visually stunning and it was interesting to see the return of Nini. However, I don’t think that a Pokémon quiz was a good idea for a performance.
