Star Wars- The Force Awakens Character Was Originally Going to Die in Early Script of the Film

*This story contains SPOILERS from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Keep reading at your own peril.*

………………..

………….

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was originally going to have another major character die during the film. Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac) was originally going to die after crash landing the TIE Fighter on Jakku.

Isaac revealed this is an interview with GQ magazine, stating that Dameron’s death had already been written when he accepted the part. The report from GQ reads as follows:

“Isaac says he had been summoned to Paris for what he suspected might be a role in The Force Awakens. Sure enough, earlier that day, he had met with Abrams, screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and Abrams had pitched him the character of Poe Dameron, a badass fighter pilot battling against the remnants of the Empire.

“He’s amazing!” said Abrams.

“Sounds good!” thought Isaac, whose first experience in a movie theater had been seeing The Empire Strikes Back.

“He opens the whole movie!” said Abrams.

“Sounds great!” thought Isaac.

“And then,” Abrams went on. “He dies.”

“Oh,” thought Isaac.

“I’d done that before,” he told me later. “Set up the plot for the main guy and then die spectacularly.” (He had played just such a role in The Bourne Legacy.)

Abrams could surely feel the enthusiasm drain out of the actor when he revealed Dameron’s fate. “I guess that’s not what you hoped for when you got on a plane to Paris,” he said. Thus the invitation to join him at Café de Flore, where Abrams patiently sipped coffee while Isaac sat hunched over the director’s iPhone, reading one of the most closely guarded scripts in the history of film. Abrams hoped to convince the actor that there were still compelling reasons to join the Star Wars fraternity.

“I wanted to impress upon him how much I wanted this to work,” Abrams remembers. It was a chance, he told Isaac, to create a role that could live on in all corners of the Star Wars universe—novels and comic books and video games and so on. The conversation lasted well into the night.

“We talked about the story and who this character could be,” Abrams says. “I loved the collaboration. People like Oscar are the people you listen to.”

Still, when they parted, Isaac remained hesitant.

“I went back home [to New York], and I thought about it,” he says. “Then I wrote him and said, ‘Okay. I’ll do it!’ I figured it would be a cameo: I’ll come in, do my thing, and maybe it’s actually better not to have to sign myself up for three movies.” By that time, though, things had changed and Abrams soon wrote back: “Never mind. I’ve figured it out. You’re in the whole movie now.”

“I was like, ‘Holy shit! Alright, cool,’ ” Isaac says.”

Thoughts on this report? Are you happy that Poe Dameron was kept alive for the rest of the film?

Star Wars- Daisy Ridley Says the Episode VIII Script is “Very Good”

EGP Website Article Image 934

Star Wars fans are still reeling from the return of Star Wars to the big-screen in the form of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but cast members are already talking about the next saga film.

Episode VIII begins production in January, but certain cast members have already read the script. Daisy Ridley (who starred as Rey in The Force Awakens) had the following to say on whether she had read the script:

“I have. It’s very good; very good. Let’s see “VII” first and then we’ll talk about “VIII.” [Laughs.] “It will be interesting to go back to “VIII” after everyone’s seen the film. I’m glad that people are going see the film before we start shooting because I think that will be a kind of… not a marker, but some kind of directional thing. I think it’ll be a very different experience.”

Star Wars Episode VIII is scheduled for release on May 26th, 2017.

Thoughts on what Daisy said? Are you excited for Star Wars Episode VIII?

Rumour- New Details on Justice League Characters in Batman v Superman Revealed

EGP Website Article Image 932

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have Batman and Superman clashing on the big-screen for the first time, but it will also feature other members of the Justice League. New rumoured details on the appearances of other members have surfaced online.

The rumoured cameos include the following:

“The most well-known and well-promoted cameo is of course Aquaman, played by Jason Mamoa. Interestingly, they report it will be Lex Luthor who brings him into the story. Most people speculated that the character would come into things angry with Superman over the destruction and alien wreckage in the Indian Ocean, but according to this report, that isn’t the case.

Cyborg – specifically mentioned in his fully-human identity of Vic Stone, will simply have a “cameo introduction” with star Ray Fisher, they report. In the comic book relaunch of Justice League that included Cyborg, he was first shown as a star football player, so that’s a possibility for him, here.

We’d already heard from sources here at ComicBook.com that The Flash’s cameo would pretty much be “blink and you might miss it,” and this report seems to confirm that. The cameo, they say, will be The Flash blurring by at super speed. One brief scene was also shot with Ezra Miller out-of-costume as Barry Allen, but they say that “might be cut from the movie entirely.”

The rumour also indicates that no Green Lantern’s will show up in the movie.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016.

Thoughts on this rumour? Are you excited to see cameos from other Justice League members in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

Doctor Who Episode Review- “The Husbands of River Song”

The 2015 Doctor Who Christmas Special gives fans the chance to see Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor interacting with Alex Kingston’s River Song for the first (and only) time, as River returns to the screens once more.

In my opinion, this is one of the best Christmas Specials as I believe it will stand out to Doctor Who fans for many years to come. Not only is it thrilling to see River Song interacting with another Doctor, but The Doctor and River going to Darillium at the end of the episode shows a heartfelt side to the episode as the episode ties in with the two-parter Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead from Series 4. River running out of pages in her diary shows another heartfelt side to the episode.

The connectivity between this episode and Series 4 are really hard to watch as we (the viewers) as the events described to David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor are shown in this episode. We’ve had to wait for seven years to see these events on screen but it was worth the wait.

EGP Website Review Image 239

Getting to see the dynamic River had with the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor’s was a treat, but (if possible) her dynamic with the Twelfth Doctor was just as good. The action scenes they shared were great, the reveal that he has a new face was handled really well and the final scene of the episode between both characters was a very special.

While this Christmas Special ended up being very strong, I do feel like it started off slowly and also suffered from having too many supporting characters. The Doctor and River were memorable as usual but I think this episode could have benefitted from less supporting characters, though King Hydroflax and Nardole were both good additions to the show.

EGP Website Review Image 238

In my opinion, this is one of the best Christmas Specials from Doctor Who in recent years. It was great to watch the Twelfth Doctor and River Song on-screen together and the episode put me through a range of emotions. However, I do feel that the episode took a while to get going and had too many supporting characters, but even just seeing The Doctor and River again was a sight to behold.

Pokémon XY Episode Review- “All Eyes on the Future!”

EGP Website Review Image 234

The latest episode of Pokémon XY sees Ash Ketchum win his seventh gym badge in the Kalos region as he defeats Anistar City’s gym leader Olympia.

I was really happy that the writers decided to have this gym battle be a double-battle. It felt like a long since the last gym double battle so I thought it was nice to see a double battle between Ash and Olympia.

The double battle was handled excellently with great visuals and battling as Ash’s Frogadier and Talonflame fought two Meowswtic. Given Olympia’s premonitions about Frogadier in the previous episode, it was great to see Frogadier play such an important role in defeating her (though none of the premonitions come into play in this episode). By the end of the episode, Frogadier and Talonflame are successful in defeating both Meowstic and Ash earns the Psychic Badge.

This is going to sound weird, but considering Ash was using Pikachu to tell when the “future sight” attacks would hit wasn’t he technically cheating? Just something that had me scratching my head during the episode.

EGP Website Review Image 236

The episode ends with Professor Sycamore giving new Pokédexes to both Ash and Serena, while Ash learns that Kalos’ final gym is located in Snowbelle City. I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of the new Pokédexes in upcoming episodes of the show… NOTE: The new Pokédexes are very similar to the designs introduced in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games.

EGP Website Review Image 235

In my opinion, this was another great episode of Pokémon XY. It was great to see Ash defeat Olympia and earn that Psychic Badge, with another excellent gym battle which was visually outstanding. The ending with Sycamore giving Ash and Serena new Pokédexes was a great way to end the season, though I still question whether Ash and Pikachu cheated during the battle…

The Big Bang Theory Episode Review- “The Opening Night Excitation”

EGP Website Review Image 231

The latest episode of The Big Bang Theory sees Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler finally consummate their relationship, Professor Proton makes a return (complete with Jedi robes again) and Wil Wheaton pisses off a lot of Star Wars fans. All the ingredients needed for a memorable episode of The Big Bang Theory.

As I’ve said in numerous reviews recently, the dynamic between Sheldon and Amy has been one of the high-lights in this on-going season of The Big Bang Theory. The changes in their relationship have been interesting to watch, but following both characters rekindling their romantic relationship in the previous episode I was curious to see what would happen next. Sheldon and Amy finally consummating their relationship was a big move by the writers and I’m intrigued to see how it will affect their interactions for the rest of the show.

EGP Website Review Image 233

The return of deceased character Professor Proton (once again in Jedi robes) added some great dimensions to the episode. Not only did his scenes add humour to the episode, but also his interactions with Sheldon helped the latter make very important decisions in the episode. Professor Proton’s scenes reminded me of how disappointed I was when the writers decided to kill the character, but his scenes in this episode were excellent regardless.

It was great to see this episode tie-in (bad pun…) with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was really nice to see Leonard, Howard and Raj very excited about its release and Wil Wheaton added some great comic relief to the scenes with his support of Star Trek. I think having Sheldon skip Star Wars to spend time with Amy was a great decision by the writers and showed how much the character has grown since the start of the show.

EGP Website Review Image 232

In my opinion, this was another excellent episode of The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon and Amy finally consummating their relationship was a big moment and I’m interested to see where both characters progress in the story onwards. The return of Professor Proton was great and it was great to see the tie-in with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
